Fitbit was the star wearable of this Christmas
It looks like Santa delivered a lot of Fitbits for Christmas this year.
Fitbit Inc (NASDAQ:FIT) secured the number one spot on Apple’s application chart on Christmas day, which indicates that a large population received Fitbit’s fitness trackers as a Christmas gift. (It remained in the top five free apps as of Monday morning).
The app, which collates all of the stats from the wearable, jumped up 20 spots to take the top spot shortly after present-opening time on December 25.
With many folks receiving new smartphones and tablets for Christmas, one would think the most popular games and social media apps would see a surge in downloads. Fitbit seems to have made an impact on consumers in the recent holiday season, as several Wall Street analysts ranked it amongst the bestselling fitness companies for both Black Friday and Thanksgiving.
Earlier this month, the International Data Corporation (IDC) released a report forecasting 214.6 million worldwide shipments of wearable device units in 2019.
The increase in sales of the wearable doesn’t really come as a surprise since every year ever since it was launched, the company recorded its top sales in the fourth quarter of the year, to be more specific, in the holiday season. The company now holds 22 percent in the fitness tracking market.
There has been plenty of talk about smartwatches killing off activity trackers like those manufactured by Fitbit, Jawbone, Garmin, and others.
