Fitzpatrick, defense lead Jets way over Titans

He was treated on the sideline and listed as questionable to return, but he fielded the Titans’ first punt of the second half.

The lone highlight for the lowly Titans (3-10) came in the third quarter when Antonio Andrews took a direct snap and connected with Mariota for a 41-yard touchdown – the rookie quarterback’s first career reception.

Head coach Todd Bowles already said he wants Fitzpatrick and his beard back next season. “The first half was a good example of if you play poorly in all three phases, you’re going to have a hard time against a good football team”.

The fact the Jets are even in this position is a credit to Bowles. They played a good game, a solid game and didn’t make a lot of mistakes. HC Mike Mularkey said “The plan is he’s playing and we’re prepping for that. It has to be corrected”.

The Jets’ defense briefly came alive in the fourth quarter. The score made Decker and Marshall the first duo in team history with at least nine touchdown receptions each in a season.

On Fitzpatrick’s recent stretch of games: “I just think the guys are starting to gel with everyone”.

“That I show up week to week and try to play as best as I can, that’s basically what it means”, Walker said. “I was pretty comfortable”.

Fitzpatrick and Marshall certainly know it. And if it’s up to them, the rest of their teammates will know the value of the opportunity ahead of the Jets over the final three weeks of the season.

The New York Jets will host the Tennessee Titans in NFL Week 14 action. The Titans can now officially look toward what they’ll do with another top-five pick – though who will be making that pick is decidedly unknown.
