Five dead in new Israeli raid on Syria
The Israeli army also released a statement, saying, “This was the work of (Palestinian) Islamic Jihad…and we consider the Syrian government responsible for the firing and it will suffer the consequences”.
The Israeli army said it carried out the air strike in retaliation for rocket strikes into northern Israel on Thursday, which it said were fired from Syria.
“The military struck the cell that carried out the shooting and the Syrian forces that allowed it. We have no intention of escalating events”, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

Syrian state TV reported the strike as killing five “unarmed civilians” at a Syrian army position.
Despite allegations coming from Israel, the Islamic Jihad denies any involvement about the recent rocket attack that is being pinned on them.

On Tuesday, Mr Netanyahu, accompanied by his defence minister, Moshe Ya’alon, visited the northern border region and vowed to strike anyone who threatened Israel. Furthermore, Israel said it holds Syria responsible as the attack emanated from its turf.
Previous attacks have mainly targeted supply routes and arms depots of Al Assad’s Lebanese ally Hezbollah inside Syria.
The rocket attacks Thursday landed in open areas of the Golan Heights and Upper Galilee.
