Senator John McCain passed away at the age of 81 Saturday afternoon and there is reaction coming in from across the nation, including Ohio. Senator McCain led a long struggle to remove “earmarks” or pork-barrel amendments from the American legislative process, annoying Republican and Democrats alike.
McCain was cleared of wrongdoing, but as John Weaver, his chief political adviser from 1997 to 2007 told FRONTLINE, “McCain understands, and he’ll admit, that when his obituary is written, the Keating scandal will be somewhere high in the obituary. At his death, he had served the United States of America faithfully for sixty years”, read the statement.
“John McCain was my friend”.
After leaving the Navy, McCain ran for an open U.S. House seat in Arizona in 1982 and won.

McCain is survived by his wife, Cindy, and seven children; three from his first marriage and four from his marriage to Cindy.
