Five Militants Killed as Army Foils Infiltration Attempt in J&K
The Army on Friday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control in North Kashmir’s Gurez sector and killed five infiltrators.
Giving details of the infiltration bid, the defence official said, “Initial two terrorists were gunned down late on Thursday night when they tried to infiltrate into our land”. The militants were allowed to enter inside the Gurez and then cordon was established around them. They were challenged and an intense gunfight ensued, resulting in elimination of two militants.
The spokesperson said four AK-47 rifles and Rocket Propelled Grenades have been recovered from the site of the encounter. A part of Kashmir is also held by China.
An army officer, asking for anonymity, said the militants had infiltrated through Neelam river, which flows into Gurez, a few days ago. A massive search operation in the area was underway, when reports last came in, to ensure no militant had escaped the Army’s counteract or similar incursion taken place in the neighbourhood while troops were engaged in fire fight with militants.
Police sources, however, maintained that none of the bodies or weapons recovered from the dead militants has been handed over to police anywhere in the Bandipore district.
