Flags lowered to honor slain officers
The National and State flags shall be lowered immediately and remain at half-staff until the expiration of the President’s national directive until sunset, July 12, 2016.
Lt. Col. Jim Smith of the Asheboro Police Department noted, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the men and women of the Dallas PD as well as the DART PD”.
“Remember our motto, “Committed to the Community”. “For our law enforcement officers in OR and across our nation, we are grateful for your public service and the work you do to keep all people safe”.
Five law enforcement officials were killed in the assault.
U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, expressed sympathy for “the fallen, their families and their loved ones”. I want them to know that MI stands with each of them who bravely reported for duty today to continue protecting and serving in the wake of this tragedy.
The president also has ordered the flag to be lowered for the deaths of distinguished government servants, including Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and South African President Nelson Mandela.
On Friday, Obama said America is “horrified” by the shootings, which have no possible justification. “And to see vicious murderers targeting them is horrific and really, really sad”, he said.
