An area of low pressure was developing over Virginia on Thursday, tracking to the northeast.
The National Weather Service says that because ground in the watch area is wet from heavy rain the past few days, additional rainfall could lead to flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas. So far it appears the almost 2 inches of rain that have fallen in Western Carter County have been held by the Tygarts.
With plenty of moisture in the air and instability in the atmosphere, any showers or storms could be capable of developing intense rainfall, at rates of an inch or two per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
