Flash flood watch issued for holiday weekend
The National Weather Service issued the watch about 10 a.m. for Larimer County and much of the Front Range and foothills.
Tides are expected to peak at 5:13 p.m. between 7 and 7.2 feet. Forecasters urge residents under the watch to be cautious as flood-prone areas such as low-lying surfaces and areas near rivers could become unsafe if flash flooding occurs. Some of them could be severe, with heavy rain and damaging winds, according to the alert.
Bad storms also are possible again this afternoon.
The weather service said residents should monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should a flash flood warning be issued. Monday’s high is 80 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday night.
A 60 to 70 percent chance of heavy rain exists in Boulder and Longmont tonight which will drop to a 40 percent of thunderstorms on Friday.
The chance for rain diminishes on Saturday, when the high temperature should reach 78 degrees. The Coloradoan’s rain gauge in Fort Collins collected two-hundredths of an inch of rain by about 9:15 a.m. Friday.
The Weather Service says up to four inches of rain could be commonplace across the area by the time the weekend comes to a close and some locations could get up to six inches of rain.
