Flash flood watch issued for portions of Va., W.Va.

Heavy rain will arrive after midnight. Forecasters said there is a possibility that a few areas could be flooded by the rain.

The National Weather Service has issued the flood watch for Avery, Alexander, Buncombe, Burke, Henderson, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford and Yancey counties. We could pick up INCHES of rain during the morning commute alone!

A flood watch is in effect throughout the region from this evening through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain are expected today and tonight.

Rain will come in two spurts, Tuesday into Wednesday and then again Friday, Lee said.

After about six weeks with very little rain, now we have a chance of rain in the forecast daily through Sunday before the sun is expected to return on Monday. There will be a few more showers, but still more dry than wet spots.
