Fleetwood Town to appoint Steven Pressley as manager
Former Coventry City boss Steven Pressley is close to being appointed as the new manager of Fleetwood Town, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Pressley, a former Scotland defender, takes over from the sacked Graham Alexander, who was sent packing last month following a disastrous 5-1 defeat to Gillingham.
Pressley, 41, played for Rangers, Coventry, Dundee United, Hearts, Celtic and Randers of Denmark before ending his playing career at Falkirk where he also had his first managerial job, taking charge in February 2010.
Alexander guided Fleetwood to promotion to League One in the 2013/14 season, but the side have struggled this season and now find themselves second from bottom of the table after winning just two of their opening 11 games. I am really pleased with the appointment.
Pressley has returned to the dugout after bagging the Fleetwood Town job.
“Steven is very hard working, he is intelligent and he has his own ideas how the game should be played which appeals to myself personally and the other senior management within the club”. We spoke to a lot of people in football and the feedback was consistent.
It now seems that Steven Pressley is going to be the man to replace Alexander at the Cod Army, and fans of the club will be hoping the 41-year-old can pull the side out of the dreaded relegation zone.
However, the pair will “watch from the stands” with Chris Lucketti in charge again when Shrewsbury visit in the JPT tonight. We are convinced he will do very well at Fleetwood Town given everything that we have to offer him’.
