Flight cancellations, delays persist in wake of US blizzard
The airline resumed some flights in NY on Sunday, but snow covering airport ramp areas in Washington delayed the restart of flights there.
LaGuardia Airport will be the most affected NY airport with more than three quarters of flights grounded, according to FlightAware.
For all of the nation’s airlines, the biggest impact of the storm came Saturday, when American cancelled 2,177 flights or 38% of its schedule, reflecting the shutdown of the Charlotte hub as well as weather problems at East Coast airports. Agency officials estimated that PATH service between the stations would resume Tuesday afternoon.
More than 450 flight arrivals and departures were cancelled at Newark on Monday as Port Authority and United Airlines workers struggled to clear snow from runways and gates.
All major airlines have issued waivers for travel over the weekend, allowing passengers to rebook onto earlier or later flights to avoid the storms. At least half the flights at Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport were canceled.

In Las Vegas, flight cancellations started Thursday night. On Monday, Delta expects to operate a full schedule throughout the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, with a few exceptions.
During the five days from Friday through Tuesday, airlines have cancelled 12,623 flights, FlightAware said. Around 1,000 flights were delayed Sunday, FlightAware said.
Airports in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington shut operations Saturday. Reagan National had 124 cancellations. All of New York’s metropolitan airports reported snowfall totals nearing 30 inches. MWAA’s priority is the safety of passengers and employees traveling to and from the airports.
