Flint pastor stops Trump in his tracks after speech gets too political
He then transitioned into attacking Hillary Clinton, and moments later, Faith Green Timmons walked up to Trump and asked him to refrain from being political.
Donald had a much better rapport with the employees – and especially the managers – at Flint’s water treatment plant, which he toured for 15 minutes before heading to the church.
As he continued on to talk about the economy and China, he turned to attacking his opponent, Hillary Clinton. “Everything she touches didn’t work out – nothing”, he said. Trump replied, “Ok, that’s good”.
The visit to Flint, where most residents are African-American, comes as Trump has increased his outreach to minorities, arguing that Democratic policies have left inner cities impoverished and risky. “It just happened. We shouldn’t allow it to happen”, said Trump at the Bethel United Methodist Church. On paper, he was there to give a speech thanking local pastors for their work combatting the Flint water crisis.
Fox News’s Ed Henry also reported Thursday morning that Timmons appeared to be itching for a fight because of a Facebook post she had posted prior to Trump’s visit but later deleted. “And I said ‘wow, this was kind of unusual.’ And then she came up”. But Trump said he wasn’t bothered by the interruption because “everyone plays their games”.
He added, “What really made me feel good, is the audience was saying, ‘Let him speak”.
Green-Timmons had told reporters that Trump’s appearance at her church was not an endorsement, but rather a means to draw more attention to Flint’s water issues. But it’s certainly true that he likes to throw punches at people who he thinks have slighted him – even if they aren’t in the political ring with him. Let him speak.’ You can watch the full, raw clip here on the FOX 2 Detroit YouTube page.
Trump mentioned the incident at a later rally in Canton, Ohio, saying, “Some people in those communities aren’t planning on voting for me and that’s OK”. What do you have to lose?’ “That was stated. When it went further than that I did exactly what we agreed I would do”.
“It used to be that cars were made in Flint and you couldn’t drink the water in Mexico”.
