Flint Water Crisis: Investigators Are Now Considering Criminal Charges

MLive is reporting that Gov. Snyder ordered the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to withhold lead test results until they figured out how to best tell the public of the dangers.

For DPS, Snyder asked for an immediate $50 million to enable the state’s largest public school system to continue paying employees and vendors.

Flood’s team of nine investigators will work independently of a separate FBI team also looking into who’s to blame for the water crisis and whether or not federal laws were broken.

Others accuse the EPA of passing the buck when they knew the water was bad.

MI governor Rick Snyder declined an invitation to attend the meeting in D.C. He presented his proposed budget on Wednesday, however, dedicating $37 million to the city for 2017, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Democratic lawmakers say the White House has signaled support for an emergency bill that would spend $765 million to help solve a water crisis in Flint.

In the intervening 18-month period before the state conceded Flint’s drinking water was contaminated, state officials documented a spike of legionnaires’ disease in the area surrounding Flint, including nine deaths, but officials haven’t concluded the water source was the cause of the increase.

Flint resident Marcy Lilly, who was living in Kentucky, and chose to move back to her hometown in November said she’s regretted the decision. It’s part of broader outreach efforts by state and local officials.

A spokesman for Snyder, who has apologized for his administration’s role in the disaster, says the $25 million for pipe replacement in Flint is a starting point and could grow once a full analysis is done.

“I think that those charges might very well fit this crime”, Masur said.
