Flipkart Sells Half Million Mobiles in Just 10 Hours
The company’s brilliant app only strategy, to offer Big Billion Day discounts, seems to be paying off. The Flipkart app has climbed up the charts to become the No 2 app on Google’s Play Store and topped the charts on iOS as well. The sale of mobile phones opened on midnight last night.
On the first day of the sale, it sold 10 lakh products in the first 10 hours with six million visits from across the nation and 25 items sold per second.
The US-based e-tailer has already witnessed double the sale of its previous biggest day – on Independence Day – when the company ran The Great Indian Freedom Sale. “We are well on track to reach United States dollars 100 million sales on our Electronics Monday Sale”, Rahul Taneja, Vice President, Category Management posted in a Snapdeal blog.
“This sets an archive for that greatest quantity of cell phones offered in a brief period often hours in virtually any system, possibly online or traditional in India”, Flipkart stated.
While metros like Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai were the leading cities in terms of sales, Flipkart also saw a huge surge in interest from Tier-2 cities with Nagpur, Indore, Coimbatore, Vishakhapatnam and Jaipur leading in sales.
A few hiccups were also reported around the time offers for mobile phones went live on Thursday. “The half a million mobile handsets sale record is truly a testament to the growing demand for smartphones in India”, Mukesh Bansal, co-founder of Flipkart and Head of Commerce Platform said.
Analysts say e-commerce firms in India could make as much as a quarter of their annual sales during this period, with the global experience, logistics network and deep pockets of Amazon putting it in a good position to grab customers from local market leader Flipkart and smaller firm Snapdeal.
The sale that started on October 13 will continue till October 17, with a new category being introduced every day.
