Flood warnings as Storm Jonas heads to UK after battering US
Experts blame a plume of mild, humid air about to be dragged across the country by the remains of Storm Jonas.
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for North-West England for rain and flooding.
Areas of Cumbria of South-west Scotland which have seen awful flooding over the last three months, can expect around 20cm (8ins) of rainfall over Tuesday and Wednesday.
Elsewhere heavy downpours will dump around two inches although the exact track of the storm is still uncertain. Southwesterly gales are likely along the south coast for a time. But as the rain is going to fall over 24-36 hours this will help reduce the pressure on our rivers and waterways.
“We will have crews out in the next couple of days and if the river levels rise then we could issue warnings”.
“The west of Wales could also be hit by strong winds and large waves so again, the advice to people is to avoid the sea front as this could be unsafe”. Discussing the shut down of New York City’s transportation with reporters at a press conferense, Cuomo said that it was necessary as “the storm was fast and furious, and we believe that safety is paramount”.
Six people died shovelling snow and other weather-related tragedies including crashes.

According to WeatherBell meteorologist Ryan Maue, blizzard determinations can be made after the storm is over by looking back at the data to see if the storm qualified. As a result, the storm has forced eleven states to declare states of emergency: New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and Kentucky.
Many schools and government offices closed and sports and entertainment events were called off.
