Florence Foster Jenkins Screams

“Florence Foster Jenkins” comes across as one of those kind of projects. This is a surprising fact since Jenkins couldn’t even hold a note. But from the perspective of history, it’s clear that the aspiring singer’s performance gaffes have had a positive impact.

“He said, ‘Don’t you want to know what it’s about?'” she added.

Florence Foster Jenkins the movie is directed by Stephen Frears. An August release date could be a challenge, but as you’ll see below, it definitely will have a campaign for Oscar attention launched before too long.

Her philandering husband, played by Hugh Grant, has been hiding the truth from her, allowing his wife to think she is an operatic wonder.

Meryl Streep elevates Stephen Frears’ gentle comedy about a real-life bad opera singer in 1940s NY. Still that didn’t stop her as the film’s signature line says, “they can say I couldn’t sing but they can’t say I didn’t”.

“I think there’s a freedom in freeing yourself of the baggage of ability”, the actor said, “because what we’re looking at then is someone [who’s] unabashedly herself”. “So he said, ‘I’ve got a film for you.’ And I said, ‘OK, yes'”.

But Grant really liked the project and said he couldn’t pass on the opportunity to work with Streep.

“I always admire the French and the Italians who are very devoted to their marriages”, Grant said. The actor continued, theorizing that once a director has assembled the right team, the trick is to believe in your cast.

When Bayfield and Florence went home after the concert, she was upset and she was crushed after reading the reviews.

“It’s a sign of confidence”, Streep agrees, “or recklessness…” Bayfield is someone who was fairly down on his luck with an acting career going nowhere when he hooked up with the wealthy Jenkins and they began a relationship of convenience that became more than that, though they never married.
