Florida acquires Kindl from Detroit
In return for the 32-year-old Hudler the Flames received a second round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft and a fourth-rounder in 2018.
According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Flames will not retain any of Hudler’s salary.
Kindl played in 25 games for the Red Wings this season, accumulating 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists).
Hudler had been a Calgary Flame since the 2012-13 lockout season when then-GM Jay Feaster inked the former Detroit Red Wing on free agency. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent in the summer and it wouldn’t be a stretch for the Panthers to be interested in keeping him around long-term; presuming that he plays well, of course.
“Ownership has given me carte blanche to go out and get it done” he said.
Kindl had six points (two goals) and a plus-3 rating in 25 games for Detroit this season.
“He had a big impact”, Treliving said.
“But as time went on and the realities … the contract situation we have”, he explained.
“Getting those three guys are really going to add to our lineup”, center Nick Bjugstad said. Many times when you’d get back to the bench, he’d let you know when things weren’t good enough. “Florida is loading up, they’re in first place, they’re looking to make a run; they think Kindl can help their cause”.
“(Panthers GM) Dale Tallon called me when he was on waivers this week and said they had interest but wasn’t going to claim him”, Holland said.
It is the second trade of the week for Treliving, who shipped Markus Granlund to the Vancouver Canucks on Monday in exchange for 2013 first round pick Hunter Shinkaruk.
Hudler is a Czech citizen who has spent the past four seasons in Canada with the Flames; although Purcell – a native of Newfoundland – spent parts of five seasons with Tampa Bay, he has been with the Oilers since being traded there in 2014. “So, we’ll see how it works out”. Purcell had 11 goals and 21 assists in 61 games with Edmonton this season, and has 22 playoff games under his belt.
Finally, the Panthers got Kindl from the Red Wings for a sixth-round pick at the 2017 draft.
