Florida Gators vs. LSU Tigers: Betting odds, point spread and tv info
LSU live stream and televised game from the 2015 NCAA football schedule will take place in primetime on Saturday night with the Gators putting their faith in a backup quarterback. This game was no different.
LSU handed the Gators (6-1, 4-1) their first defeat of the Jim McElwain era because UF had no answer for the latest trick play LSU coach Les Miles pulled out of his trademark white hat.
Miles dialed up a fake field goal to set up the winning touchdown when LSU beat Florida in Gainesville in 2010, but none of these Gators were around for that one. Trent Domingue lined up to kick a 33-yard field goal, but holder Brad Kragthorpe stood up and threw a slightly backwards pass to his left as Domingue ran toward the flat.
On first and 10 just shy of midfield, Fournette took a handoff from Harris and then tossed the ball back to his quarterback, who found Dupre for 52 yards.
The LSU Tigers rode several clutch plays down the stretch to hold off the Florida Gators for a 35-28 victory.
LSU wound up with 423 yards compared to 326 for Florida. Fournette had two rushing TDs.
But as it turned out, that was the unit that ultimately doomed the Gators.
With Harris at the helm, Florida jumped out to an early lead.
Oregon is hoping to get quarterback Vernon Adams back in the lineup. That was to be expected somewhat, however, as the Florida defense is one of the best in the nation and easily the best LSU has faced this season.
ABOUT LSU (5-0, 3-0 SEC): Guice earned SEC freshman of the week honors while rushing for 161 yards against South Carolina, but Fournette is the focal point as he continues to put together an epic season.
The quarter belonged to the Tigers. He’s the best pure running back, has been piling up all kinds of yards and touchdowns, but Florida has a fast defense that has a lot of athletes on that side of the football.
Oh, and Fournette had his breakout conference game against the Gators last season.
Fournette gained a first down with a 12-yard bruising run to get the Tigers away from the goalline, but Harris’ third-and-8 pass fell in front of Dural and the Tigers punted out of bounds at the Florida 38 with 3:47 to play. Neither team scored again as LSU covered by the hook.
LSU and Florida didn’t end up playing the low-scoring grinder of a game that many expected, but there were enough thrills and surprises to satisfy everyone in a good 35-28 win for the Tigers. Dupre had 4 catches for 115 yards and two scores. The offensive line should take a few of the blame for these struggles, as LSU was in Florida’s backfield most of the night.
Taking the snap at the 50, Harris avoided a sack and launched a bomb into the awaiting hand of Dupre at the 5 yard line. LSU is 20/23 scoring in the red zone with 14 touchdowns and opponents are 11/12 with 9 touchdowns. He finished with 181 yards on 31 carries. The drive was highlighted by a 48-yard pass from Harris to wide receiver Antonio Callaway that gave the Gators a first down inside the Tigers’ 20. Harris 17-yard run to the LSU 14.
Domingue bobbled the ball twice – even letting it ricochet off his helmet – before finally securing it and running untouched into the end zone behind an excellent double-team block by fullback Darrel Williams and tight end Colin Jeter on linebacker Jarrad Davis. Two plays later, Taylor’s two-yard touchdown run cut the LSU lead to 28-21 with 8:01 to play in the third quarter. The fake woke the team up, bailed out the sputtering offense, and got LSU the win.
Harris completed 15-of-26 passes for 231 yards and two scores, and Callaway delivered several highlight plays, including an electric 72-yard punt return to knot the score in the third quarter.
Corey Coleman (10 catches for 199 yards) had three more touchdown catches and Baylor won its FBS-best 19th consecutive home game. Following a bye week, a huge contest awaits at Alabama.
