Florida Gov. Declares State of Emergency in Counties With Zika Virus
The order allows the state’s agriculture department to ramp up mosquito spraying in Miami-Dade, Hillsborough, Lee and Santa Rosa counties and allows the state’s health department to seek further resources to fight the spread of Zika.
Since the Bayou City breeds the same type of mosquitoes that are known to transmit the virus in Brazil and other Latin countries, this is worrisome for the warmer months. He says large events like the Olympics, set for Rio de Janeiro in August, make it easy for things like Zika to spread further.
There has been one case of Zika reported in L.A. And given our pathways to Latin America, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if there are more. Cape Verde and Indonesia have also reported domestic Zika cases.
Back in Canada, health officials here believe that doctors should be aware of the potential link.

There is now no vaccine, treatment or cure for the Zika virus.
The United Nations health agency estimates that as many as four million people could be infected with the virus this year.
On Monday the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Zika virus world health emergency, like the deadly Ebola infection that rocked Central Africa from 2014 to 2015, after the first meeting of the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee in Geneva, Switzerland.
