Scott is now calling for an emergency response team from the CDC, writing in a statement that the team would help state health officials with their “investigation, research and sample collection efforts”.

Scott updated the media Monday after a meeting with health officials in Pinellas County, which is the Tampa area.

Some experts said that is far too small a radius.

The director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday there were no plans to recommend limiting travel to South Florida.

Mosquito control officials in Collier and Lee counties say no mosquitoes that can transmit Zika have tested positive. They also have urged expectant mothers who frequent the area to get tested for the virus. The doctor warned him that he wouldn’t feel well, but LeBranch said he doesn’t have a fever or feel any pain.

Zika virus infection typically causes a mild illness in those who develop disease.

These cases were among the first reported transmissions of Zika from insect to human in the United States; the hundreds of other cases previously identified in Florida had been linked to travelers who visited countries where the virus is prevalent. The advisory was issued after four non-travel related cases of the Zika virus were confirmed in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

U.S. media said this could be the first time the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised the public not to travel a place in the continental United States.

Women who want to become pregnant should wait at least eight weeks after returning from this area before trying to conceive.

For couples trying to have a baby, women with Zika virus disease should wait at least eight weeks and men with Zika virus disease should wait to attempt conception at least six months after symptoms begin.

Pregnant women who traveled to this area on or after June 15, 2016, should talk with their healthcare provider and should be tested for Zika.

The Florida infections are thought to have occurred in a small area just north of downtown Miami, in the Wynwood arts district.

A similar team was sent to Utah earlier this month to investigate how a person may have become infected while caring for a Zika-infected patient, before local officials went public with the case. “In addition, all individuals traveling to areas where Zika virus transmission is occurring should take steps to avoid mosquito bites“.

USA health officials do not expect widespread outbreaks of the sort seen in Brazil and in Latin America and the Caribbean, in part because of better sanitation, better mosquito control and wider use of window screens and air conditioners.

Pregnant women can be infected with Zika virus in any trimester and there have been increased cases of microcephaly possibly associated with Zika virus infections.

Still others have said they will compete and take precautions, including wearing Zika-proof uniforms pretreated with mosquito repellent and, among some men, freezing their sperm for future use in case they are infected.

More than 1,600 cases of Zika have been discovered on the U.S. mainland, but until the new Florida outbreak, all had been contracted while the carrier was traveling overseas.
