Florida lawmakers in Washington react to Trump’s immigration order
“It’s a life-saving program”.
The uncertainty has left refugees “anxious, confused, and heartbroken”, and Grandi “deeply worried”, the statement read.

The number of refugees resettled by the Obama administration was low – the USA has resettled only about 12,000 refugees since the war began six years ago – and Syrians already had a hard time visiting the United States.
The vast majority of the world’s refugees are hosted in developing countries, and less than 1 per cent will ever be resettled globally.
“Resettlement has been a sign of tangible solidarity with the world’s most vulnerable refugees”, the press release said.
In Friday’s executive order, Trump proclaimed that the entry of Syrian refugees “is detrimental to the interests of the United States”.
If Trump thought that he could win over campaigning Christians by prioritising Christian refugees in Syria, he was mistaken. If future U.S. refugee policy is based on a narrow implementation of ‘America First, ‘ why should Lebanon or Tanzania or a hundred other countries continue to receive refugees? “But, you know at the moment, our clients who are from those seven Muslim countries are not allowed to travel to the United States, they are not able to get on a plane”. In a speech she gave in December 2015, Clinton said that the USA has to “be vigilant in screening and vetting refugees from Syria, guided by the best judgment of our security and diplomatic professionals”. When the administration makes wild claims about Syrian refugees pouring over our borders, they are relying on alternative facts – or as I like to call it, fiction. Employment is crucial for newly arriving refugees to integrate into their new communities. “Refugees share the very same concerns about security and safety that Americans have”, the statement said. Refugees should be viewed as resilient for having survived unimaginable circumstances. He had been hoping to move to the USA with his family – one of his sons is a veterinary doctor, the other an engineer; his third son is finishing an engineering degree in Germany and his daughter is still in prep school – because he believed that together they could be “very useful” to the country.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Muallem called on the country’s refugees to return home, official media reported, without directly commenting on a United States travel ban targeting them. “They can say they vet them”. I can think of few things more un-American than discriminating against people seeking refuge on our shores due to their religion.
In Vermont, this policy will primarily affect Chittenden County, as well as Rutland, which had begun accepting Syrian refugees the week prior to Trump’s order. And the threat is real: the perpetrators of the November 13, 2015 terror attacks in Paris infiltrated Western Europe posing as refugees and migrants. As the order came into effect, several foreign and dual nationals were detained by United States authorities and others barred from boarding inbound flights from other countries.
First, the executive order bans refugee admissions to the United States for a period of 120 days and caps refugee admissions at 50,000 per year.
Texas eventually decided in late September to withdraw from the program altogether.
“The FBI and other intelligence agencies have made it clear publicly, and more detailed in classified briefings to members of Congress, that we do not have a comprehensive method of confidently vetting refugees and other travelers coming to the United States from certain areas of the world”.
This did not stop the federal government and local nonprofits from continuing to help refugees relocate here with four regional designees taking Texas’ place in administering refugee resettlement efforts.
