Florida man pulls gun on landscapers over grass clippings
Neither of the two landscapers were injured in the altercation; however, Horton received a black eye during the struggle.
Get off his lawn – and take your grass clippings with you.
A 91-year-old Avon Park man reportedly angered over grass clippings that were blown into his driveway remained behind bars Sunday without bond after deputies say he tried to kill the offending landscaper.
Deputies arrested Max Horton for allegedly threatening to shoot his neighbors after some landscapers accidently blew grass clippings onto his vehicle. The argument between Horton and landscaper, Robert Hendrix, escalated quickly and Horton allegedly pulled out a handgun, ordering Hendrix to get on his knees because he was going to kill him.
Horton kept his firearm pointed at the victim’s head as he walked toward him, police said.
At some point, Hendrix was able to disarm Horton and he and Barnes subdued him until deputies arrived. Some said he would often “flip out” or “get angry for no reason”.
His wife of 69 years, who has not been named, said in the arrest report that her husband “has always acted violent”, according to the New York Daily News.
Horton’s age makes him one of the oldest Floridians ever charged in an attempted murder or murder. Florida Hospital was bypassed because Horton had been trespassed warned from Florida Hospital in September, 2013, due to verbal threats he made to staff members, telling them he had a gun in his vehicle and they would be sorry if he went to get it.
Police said Horton allegedly threatened to get “payback” on his neighbors while being transported to jail this week.
