Florida man says meth joke got him banned from Disney
A St. Augustine, Florida man and his family were evacuated from Disney World over the Labour Day weekend for a meth lab joke taken literally. He was also issued a trespass warning for all Walt Disney World properties.
At that point, the Swindler family was not only removed from the hotel but banned from Disney for life. Swindler said that he accepts responsibility for his claims, but really just didnt think anyone would take him seriously.
Swindler wants his rights to the park restored.
When he called back, Swindler says he jokingly griped about the long wait on hold.
Swindler, his wife, Shelley, and two kids arrived at the Pop Century resort on Friday.
Apparently, according to First Coast News Swindler had decided to extend his familys stay at Disney World, but when Swindler grew impatient with one of the resorts cast members, he joked that he could build a meth lab in his room by the time he actually got some service.
“This has not taken away my love for Disney”, Swindler said. The Orange County Sheriff’s deputies and Disney security went into the family’s hotel room at night and searched for the meth lab he threatened to build. “Don’t know why I said “meth lab.’ I should have said, ‘I was going to build an atomic bomb” or something else”. Even so, Swindler is trying to appeal the ban, First Coast reported.
Regardless, the lifelong Disney fan asserts that the incident “has not taken away my love for Disney”.
Needless to say, the remark didn’t go over so well with the fine folks at Disney. His wife says that “David has been beating himself up” about the whole situation.
Swindler has tried to tell his side of the story to the media and on YouTube, hoping to get park officials to reconsider the lifetime ban. A Disney representative said they would review the appeal. “I’d like an apology from the employees responsible, a refund for the night and maybe a stuffed toy for my daughters”. It’s taken an emotional toll on their family and they hope a reversal can come about.
