Florida man who massacred ducklings with mower gets 1 year in jail
Landscaper Jason Falbo took aim at the mother duck and her 11 offspring while they were feeding in his ride-on lawnmower.
According to the Palm Beach Post, the mother duck and four ducklings managed to get to the safety of the lake, but two of the young birds later drowned from injuries.
Boyd Jentzsch said his family, including his 7-year-old son, watched from inside their home, screaming as the ducks were run over.
Jason Falbo II, (left) 24, of Royal Palm Beach, was sentenced to one year in prison after running over a family of ducklings (right).
As punishment for both the animal cruelty and battery charges, the judge handed down a sentence of three years of probation, with the first year in jail, the newspaper reported.
Gontchar joined Jentzsch at his door when they observed Falbo riding on a lawn mower.
However, Falbo then “ran directly over the ducklings and body parts were scattered all over the lawn”, according to a May police report about the massacre.
Gontchar and Jentzsch ran out to Falbo yelling at him to stop, but Falbo smiled, backed up his mower, and continued to kill more ducklings.
The police quoted Falbo as saying: ‘They were in my path, so I just kept mowing.’. “He wasn’t even cutting the grass”. Only the mother and two ducklings survived, all the others died.
A police report from that incident said that he had pushed his now former girlfriend to the ground and choked her after she refused to tell him who she was texting.
Falbo’s employer, Reliable Lawn Care, said it was his first day on the job, but Mr Jentzsch insisted it was merely his first day on the mower, and that he had seen him working previously in the neighbourhood. He must also have a mental health exam within 30 days after he is released from jail.
