Florida rallies to beat Tennessee for 11th straight, 28-27
But Tennessee got another chance. The players quietly filed from the locker room, were handed a snack bag and boarded the bus.
The Tennessee Volunteers visit the Florida Gators in SEC action in week four.
Early in the forth quarter, Vols tailback Jalen Hurd scooted for a 10-yard score, but Tennessee coach Butch Jones mysteriously decided not to attempt a two-point conversion.
“I feel bad for our fans”. We talk about that every day….
The Gators moved to 4-0 with a dramatic 28-27 comeback win over Tennessee in the Swamp on Saturday.
Did Florida really win a game that looked over with 10 minutes to play? The Gators’ safety laid out Tennessee receiver Joey Kent, and the hit was so jarring that Kent bit through his tongue. Three runs went nowhere and Trevor Daniel punted. Florida will take over at its 30 yard line. It had more than the distance, but Lewisburg sophomore Aaron Medley’s kick failed to hook. It had the distance but was just off to the right.
Florida Coach Jim McElwain has a catchphrase for his players. Tennessee has been on the losing end of two of them.
They haven’t since 2004.
In that respect, Tennessee is no different from Florida.
But the Vols’ ground game has starred so far, ranking No. 17 nationally at 246 yards per game. Running back Jalen Hurd leads the Vols with 300 rushing yards on the season.
Grier’s blindside protector will have to take his game to another level on Saturday, however, as Barnett is not only one of the best defensive ends in the SEC but in the entire nation.
Neither Tennessee nor Florida want this game to come down to a field goal.
Tennessee, though, seemed to have re-established control with a 16-play drive that lasted 7:26. TCU rushed 47 times for 247 yards and three touchdowns, led by Green’s 28 carries for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Like we spoke about a couple of weeks ago, sometimes a two-yard gain is a positive gain.
“Is our resiliency being tested right now?”
“Well, first of all, (only) 12 individuals are on the travel roster that went to Florida (for the game in 2013)”, Jones said. Butch Jones, like most coaches would, has sought to downplay the importance of this game as just any other, but it clearly is not.
The first half was unusual to say the least. But UF’s aggressiveness soon backfired when Vols offensive coordinator Mike DeBord caught the Gators flat-footed.
But he didn’t throw either of the two biggest passes.
The Vols fell behind early thanks to a five yard touchdown run by Kelvin Taylor with 10:23 to go in the 1 quarter. They gave up 14 points in the final five minutes.
The Vols’ equalizer was a doozy. Dobbs found clear sailing for the 58-yard score. Field goal, 55 yards. From there, Dobbs ran 58 yards into the end zone to tying the game at 7-7. “I hit it for a big play that led to a touchdown”. Florida is a pedestrian 8-6 over the past two-plus seasons at Florida Field, taking away from the aura that once made it one of the best home-field field advantages in the country.
If Allen can finally reach the apex of his career at Arkansas the Razorbacks may just have the potential to turn the season around. The Vols fall to 2-2 and will host Arkansas next Saturday night. So it’s a challenge in and of itself, but I know we’re looking forward to that challenge as well. We felt at that stage of the game, we had great confidence in our defense getting off the field.
