Florida State-Florida relevance back
With Jameis Winston under center, the Seminoles rolled over the Gators the past two years.
Thompson touches on Florida’s suspect injury reports, the Gators’ top offensive weapons, stopping Dalvin Cook and more. They took care of business against the weaker foes beating Boston College and Wake Forest but when asked to step up in class on the highway, it was a different story with the Seminoles losing to Georgia Tech and Clemson.
The game was sloppy and not heavy on well-played football offensively. They feel like they’re the best team in the state…. “He deserves to be sitting at the table in NY”. They staged the SEC’s first 1 vs. 2 matchup in the 2008 title game – and the second in 2009.
In truth, UF’s offense didn’t even score against the FSU defense on the night, the only points coming from a safety after Sean Maguire was sacked in the fourth quarter.
Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher makes a plea to an official… If our defense can contain Cook and make them throw, we will be ok.
“Look, I don’t have anything against Florida State”, Rubio said before delivering his zinger. Chris Thompson was called for interference with the catch when he clipped Wilson from behind and the resulting penalty gave FSU a first down at the UF 41. The Gators averaged just 318 yards per game over their final six games, including a putrid 257 yards in a 27-2 loss to Florida State on Saturday night at “The Swamp”. On FSU’s next possession, the Seminoles marched 74 yards in seven plays.
Michigan State will now play No. 4 Iowa for the Big Ten championship next week in Indianapolis.
“We had a lot of confidence coming back in”, Terrell, whose nine points led FGCU, said of the start of the second half. “I think maybe he might have looked at the rush a little bit”. The more common weaponry in his right arm seems to be out of warranty.
Speaking of patterns, Florida’s paltry total of 262 yards in total offense didn’t come as much of a shock. Erratic and embattled kicker Austin Hardin missed a 51-yard field goal and had a 37-yard attempt blocked.
While they may have won four games in a row before the Saturday game against FSU, the Florida Gators didn’t have easy wins against their last three opponents, including a 2-point win over Vanderbilt, a 10-point victory over SC, and a 6-point win over Florida Atlantic.
Florida’s lone bright spots were running back Kelvin Taylor and a defense that allowed 158 yards through three quarters. Cook was mostly ineffective through the first three quarters, but exploded for 148 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter at the expense of an exhausted Gator defense.
Defensive end Johnie Church (92-95)Memorable Moment: My most memorable game that I took part in is 1995.
Treon Harris was Florida’s biggest problem – again. But Harris was assessed an intentional grounding penalty on third down, moving the ball back to the 19.
The Gators also reached the 10 with five minutes left in the game, but two incomplete passes and two runs for no yards turned the ball over to the Seminoles.
But the 2015 season has been something of a renaissance for running backs, with LSU’s Leonard Fournette, Alabama’s Derrick Henry, Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott and Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey all putting up eye-popping numbers on highlight-reel plays on a weekly basis. But in terms of contending for a playoff berth, Florida is on the wrong end of a long drive on the Florida Turnpike from that kind of consistency.
