Florida State RB Dalvin Cook found not guilty of battery
Florida State running back Dalvin Cook on Monday was found not guilty of misdemeanor battery after a woman accused him of punching her in the face in June. “It’s time to go to work – back to the field”.
The AP reports that the accuser, Madison Geohegan, testified that she began arguing with a group of Florida State football players after one of them called her a whore. She told them she was dating Auburn defensive back T.J. Davis. Cook’s lawyer had previously stated that he expected Cook to be acquitted quickly after the lawyer requested a speedy trial. The teammates, as well as a defense witness who said he had no prior relationship with either party, testified that the alleged victim hit Rudolph.
“I’m just thankful and blessed the truth came out”, Cook said after the verdict with attorneys Ricky Patel and Joey McCall flanking him.
Update 9:30pm: Dalvin Cook has been reinstated to the Florida State football team, per release from the school.
With Johnson and Cook involved in their incidents, Fisher was prompted to ban all Seminoles from going to bars as he tried to establish some sort of order and prevent any other ugly incidents that would cast a black eye on the program.
During closing arguments, McCall repeatedly told the jury the evidence and testimony “just doesn’t add up”.
Geohegan says the punch split her lip.
The 21-year-old woman says Cook initially tried to calm the situation but became angry after she pushed one of his friends.
Tallahassee police officer Matthew Smidt agreed with McCall that Geohegan’s injuries weren’t severe. He was also second on the team with eight touchdowns.
He also noted that the only two people who testified that Cook hit her was Geohegan and her friend Keara Lubeskie, who witnesses said was very drunk.
Police then showed Geohegan a lineup of six photos.
He also rushed for 103 yards in Florida State’s 59-20 loss to Oregon in the Rose Bowl.
