Florida State Shuts Down Gators
The Gators flirted with losses in their last three games – against Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Florida Atlantic – so struggling against the Seminoles was no surprise. Standing in its way however are the Florida State Seminoles and a few unimpressive performances the past three games.
-FSU’s 30 yards of offense were its lowest first quarter total of the season. “This is one of the toughest places in all of college football to play”. Fisher is the only Seminoles coach with a winning record against the Gators. What was most unexpected, was the final score.
UPSET ALERT? The higher ranked team has won each of the last 10 games in the series. They are the 32nd-ranked rebounding team in Division I, averaging 44.5 per game, while the Catamounts rank 195th in the nation with 37.0 per game. Florida State embarrassed the Gators in the Swamp. Florida’s two points came via a safety with about nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. “It might be in our best interest not to press quite as much”. He looked most on point during his only touchdown of the game, a tight, threaded pass to Jeremy Kerr in the second quarter to opening the game’s scoring. In the process Cook also set the FSU single-season record for all-purpose yards (1,875) that was set in 1977 by Larry Key.
“Defenses wear down and he doesn’t”, Maguire said.
“This guy plays his tail off, plays with energy, practices with energy and loves to play the game”, McElwain said.
Maguire had a hand in this one, too.
The Seminoles, who led 10-0 at halftime, had only four first downs in the first half.
It’s not often you’ll see a team’s official social media account mention a suspension (outside of passing on the news), and the wording of this definitely sounds very similar to what a coach would say. “It was pretty awesome”.
“I thought we really settled in early second half, strung together some stops and then got into an offensive rhythm led by Dorian Finney-Smith”, White said.
“Fourth and an inch – if we can’t make it, we don’t deserve to win”, he said. We’ve probably got to reevaluate how many 3s we’re shooting and who’s shooting them and where we’re shooting them from. They had salmon, catfish and tilapia fillets, along with some yummy-looking crab legs that would have made Jameis Winston commit petty theft, but no dead fish staring back from their icy home in the seafood case. “We’ll have discussions after the game”. And if there’s something brewing, it’s nothing we’re going to focus on because if it was something we needed to focus on, he’d tell us.
The Seminoles’ defense, meanwhile, held up its end of the bargain on the other side. “Sod Game” wins are earmarked for occasions when FSU is a road underdog or anytime it plays at Florida, Miami or in a bowl game. FSU blitzed him regularly, sacking him four times and forcing him to complete only half of his passes (19 of 38).
“Our defense was utterly dominant”, Fisher said. “Charles Kelly and his staff – what a job they’re doing”. Since taking over for Grier, Florida’s offense has regressed under Harris. “I don’t know.” With the way this season has gone, don’t be surprised if Robinson jumps to the National Football League in the offseason. “Hopefully I don’t cry”, McGee said.
FSU’s Roberto Aguayo proved to be every bit the advantage FSU expected coming into the game.
