Floyd Mayweather ‘officially out of retirement’ to fight Conor McGregor
After months of highly publicized trash talk between the two, Mayweather is now convinced McGregor is just bluffing and never wanted to see him inside of a ring.
The 40-year-old boxing legend retired in 2015 after beating Andre Berto and improving to 49-0 as a professional, tying Rocky Marciano’s remarkable record. But it turns out Mayweather only wants the fight in Las Vegas, where Conor McGregor has issues with the Nevada Athletic Commission regarding a ruling on the sanctions meted on him and the UFC after an altercation at a pre-fight conference.
“It may not be a rumor. Let’s get it on in June”, said mayweather. In other words, Mayweather wouldn’t have a mismatch on his hands like he will if he fights McGregor. Even if Mayweather somehow beat those guys, he would have to take a lot of hard shots from them.
“I can give a s*** less about Conor boxing”, Serra added. Once again, I’m an elephant.
The ball now appears to be in McGregor’s court, because his proposed opponent has made a decision to go back to work just to meet him after retiring in September 2015. But of course, we’re the A-side.
Mayweather stoked the hype machine with his remarks today, declaring that McGregor needs to make an arrangement with UFC president Dana White to allow the fight to happen.
Brian Campbell of ESPN.com previously provided remarks Mayweather made on First Take about demanding a guaranteed nine-figure payday.
“Before you ask for $25M, be worth more than $25M”. Since then, McGregor has been selling millions of pay-per-views while headlining cards in the UFC and that part of the negotiation seems to remain the biggest obstacle from making a fight with Mayweather come together. Mayweather vs. McGregor is no different. The figures might not be accurate, and McGregor’s nearly certainly isn’t, but the point was made.
And according to Irish pro-boxer and McGregor’s close friend, Michael Conlan, “The Notorious” is aiming for a September date for the monster clash with Mayweather. You blowing smoke up everybody’s ass. “Sign the paper. Sign the paper”. He claims that he’s offered McGregor $15 million, and he’s simply waiting for the UFC star to agree to the terms. “If you want to fight, sign the paperwork, let’s do it”.
Mayweather’s impassioned plea and explanation of the situation on Saturday might have revealed Money’s nervousness and uncertainty around the practicality of the fight.
“I probably had silk pajamas on and they kept saying that, ‘Conor McGregor wants to fight”.
