Flyers, right wing Jakub Voracek agree to a multiyear contract extension
On Thursday the Philadelphia Flyers signed Jakub Voracek to an 8 year, $66 million contract, an average annual value of $8.25 million.
Voracek’s deal will reportedly pay him $66 million US over eight years, and will go into effect following the 2015-2016 season. He exploded last season, racking up a career-best 81 points (22 goals, 59 assists), good for fifth best in the National Hockey League. He has four goals and 11 assists in 22 playoff games. It was only the second time in his career that he topped 60 points in a single season, but he is now in the prime of his career and every player that plays alongside him tends to see an increase in their production.
The Flyers acquired Voracek in June of 2011 from the Blue Jackets.
The Philadelphia Flyers are looking at the future with this contract.
Just days after announcing an extension with Center Sean Couturier, Ron Hextall and the Philadelphia Flyers have signed Right-Winger Jakub Voracek to a “multi-year extension”.
“The Jake Voraceks of the world are few and far between”, Hextall said. “And we certainly weren’t willing to risk losing him”. It was second time he won the award (2012-13). The others? Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Nick Backstrom and John Tavares. Kessel signed an 8-year, $64 million deal in 2013. Voracek and Giroux are an excellent foundation for a team that is looking to return to form. He is one of the rare players to rocket to the top of league scoring after playing 500 NHL games, reaching a new level of maturity. “I think when neither side is necessarily thrilled with the deal, you probably made a fair deal”.
Hakstol will get a chance to talk to the whole group eye-to-eye when training camp begins on September 17.
