Following Chris Christie, Maine Gov. Paul LePage Endorses Donald Trump
With Trump leading in opinion polls in almost all of the “Super Tuesday” contests, Republicans are recognizing the brash mogul and reality television star is likely to be their nominee even as Rubio and Cruz try to shake up the race ahead of the November 8 election.
Brent Littlefield, LePage’s political adviser, declined comment on why LePage changed his mind, but Christie – who helped LePage get re-elected in 2014 as chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association – is the apparent nexus of the endorsement.
He said Mr Trump was the party’s best hope of winning back the presidency from the Democrats.
Only 15% of GOP voters think Trump is unlikely to be nominated, a decline from 24% last week.
While delivering the Republican response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, the senator took an awkward water break that has continued to be a topic of ridicule three years later.
“He’s the only candidate who’s showing a vision for the future”, he said. He has respect for Ohio Gov. John Kasich, but sees no realistic path for him to the nomination.
“I think it’s great news that he’s endorsing Donald Trump”, said Doherty, who represents a conservative district in northern New Jersey.
Baker, a moderate, questioned again Friday whether Trump has the temperament to be president.
Republican Presidential candidate Marco Rubio visited downtown Oklahoma City Friday in advance of the state’s primary election on Tuesday.
Christie largely stuck with the argument that Trump is “the best person… undoubtedly” to beat Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. The state’s large African-American population is expected to favor her over Sanders, a US senator from Vermont. To try to take down Trump, one of his chief opponents acted just like him. On foreign policy, he’s saying he’s going to kill them, he’s going to bomb them, we’re not putting up with this.
“Rubio needs to stay on the attack like he has started to do so effectively and portray this Christie endorsement as nothing more than a selfish act”, Desilets said. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
