Food bank fills the need with turkeys
The food is donated by Harris Teeter and the meals are donated to area food pantries.
Fellowship of Christians United Service or “FOCUS” is dedicated one whole day just to organize and bag food for hundreds of families in need this time of year.
The Sacramento Food bank and Family Services gave out more than 11,000 turkeys to families who need them Monday morning. It’s people who you wouldn’t think.
“Helps out, you know, move forward and it helps me as i do a lot of running around helping other people throughout the community” Charlie Tucker received food from FOCUS on Saturday. As of Thursday, the food bank had 687 turkeys in storage, less than half of what operators expected to hand out for Thanksgiving.
The St Mary’s Food Bank says they are still accepting donations of frozen turkeys for Christmas.
Many Anchorage sites are set up for the event, with food collected from Boy Scout troops, local churches, local businesses and statewide companies.
The boxes contain roughly 20 pounds of food and will help feed a family of four for up to a week.
