Football From “Deflategate” Controversy Sells For $43K
While celebrating, Blount dropped, where upon receiver Brandon LaFell picked it up and who handed it to a fan named Laura in the stands. According to an NFL-commissioned investigation, officials reinflated each of the Patriots’ balls at halftime after finding they were underinflated.
The 243-page report by investigator Ted Wells concluded that the Patriots “more probable than not” violated National Football League rules and Brady “was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities” of the deflated game balls. Lelands.com auctioned off the only DeflateGate ball known to be in circulation to the highest bidder, who forked over almost $44,000 for a piece of infamous history.
The National Football League suspended quarterback Tom Brady for four games, pending a decision on his appeal, and also fined the Patriots $1 million and two draft picks.
The ball was re-inflated prior to the second half so there was no way of telling which particular ball was the one under question, but this ball was one of the one’s the Patriots had control over.
Auction house Lelands.com sold the ball from the American Football Conference championship game – in which the Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts to book a Super Bowl berth.
