Football League reveals average cost of tickets for 2014-15
To put it more specifically, again on average; the Championship cost £15.65 per game; League One at £11.72 per game; and finally League Two was £11.58 per game.
This weekend’s Premier League matches are expected to see solidarity among rival fans, united in arguing for cheaper away tickets.
Supporters attending Football League matches last season paid on average just £14.08 per seat, according to information released by the ruling body.
The Football League’s Chief Executive, Shaun Harvey said: “These figures show that, on the whole, Football League clubs continue to offer value for money to their supporters“.
‘Pricing is a major barrier to watching live football for many fans – no club should deny fans the right to freedom of speech within grounds on such a central issue.
“The impact of rising prices has been particularly felt by away fans at Premier League level, who also have to contend with high travel costs and kick-off times changed for TV, and that’s why we’ve focussed on away fans with our “Twenty’s Plenty” campaign”.
The figures include the admission costs paid by season ticket holders, non-season ticket holders, supporters in corporate hospitality areas and away fans.
A Premier League spokesman said: “While the most expensive tickets are subject to the most attention, the huge number of offers available at clubs are generally ignored”. As a result, season ticket holders now make up a greater proportion of crowds and account for 10 million of the 16 million plus admissions to Football League matches every season. This approach does not provide a fair reflection of what the vast majority of fans are actually paying to attend Premier League football matches.
The Club Gates Statement also revealed that collectively all of the 72 clubs earned in excess of £213m of combined gate receipts and over 15m tickets altogether. Login using you Facebook, Twitter, Google or LinkedIn accounts and have your say!
