(Football) Schneiderlin close to Everton move, says Mourinho
He has played 47 times for the club but has only featured eight times under Jose Mourinho this season, including three Premier League appearances.
Schneiderlin, 27, revealed the chance to reunite with former Southampton boss Ronald Koeman attracted him to Goodison Park. He’ll hope to recapture that form at Everton.
The French global midfielder has moved for an initial £20m, which will rise to £24m. If there would be a problem with this proposed move, it would be the fit.
Everton have also agreed to loan striker Oumar Niasse, 26, to Hull, with personal terms still to be agreed.
At Everton he will join a midfield corps comprising ageing veteran Gareth Barry, tough-tackling Idrissa Gueye, and sparkling youngster Tom Davies.
Speaking to A Bola, Mourinho said: “I am convinced that in this winter market we will be sellers and not buyers”.
Manchester United are going to be a man light soon, after the club accepted a bid from Everton for their midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. The French worldwide had interest from elsewhere but linking back up with Koeman was something he wanted to do.
Managers came and went from St Mary’s, but Schneiderlin was always at the heart of the team.
This was however, the first time that they had broken the global record.
But one certainty is that, after a low-key start to the transfer window, Schneiderlin’s move to Everton will set in motion many more deals between now and deadline day.
If Everton wrap this deal up, they’ll be buying themselves a good player.
This in turn means that Irish worldwide James McCarthy will have to battle with the impressive Idrissa Gueye and the ever-reliable Gareth Barry for a place in the Goodison Park side’s starting XI.
