For Amazon, ‘Prime Day’ is Christmas in July

Then again, today is Prime Day, we told you yesterday to look out for sales on Amazon products.

It’s Amazon Prime Day 2016, which means tons of huge deals and major discounts. For brick-and-mortar retailers, it’s a race to stay relevant and maintain a foothold online.

Prime day has three types of deals. Read our stories to see. The 2015 event was the biggest global sales day ever for the company, according to Amazon.

Amazon Prime members will find discounts of 20 percent or more off products during this year’s Amazon Prime Day, July 12. In a live blog post previous year, we compared the top Prime Day electronic prices to those that were available during Black Friday in 2014. As a result, they will receive free two-day shipping and access to video streaming and music.

Other retailers, including Macy’s, Kohl’s, Sears, Toys R Us and J.C. Penney are touting deals this week even if they don’t mention Amazon or Prime Day by name.

Time Magazine noted in the lead-up to Prime Day that Amazon could face “brutal” backlash if the event again frustrated users.

And how do Prime Day deals compare to Black Friday or other holiday season deals like Cyber Monday? The company also said it got hundreds of thousands of new Prime signups.

A spokesperson for Walmart echoed these sentiments, stating that Walmart believes “saving money every day is better than just one, and that all customers should save, not only some”. Sites like Walmart.com, eBay, BestBuy and FreeShipping.com do not require membership to capitalize on the deals they offer.
