Forbes names Jennifer Lawrence as Highest Paid Actress
Jennifer Lawrence has topped Forbes’ list of the highest-paid actresses in the world in 2015, raking in million over a 12-month period. According to Variety, Lawrence occupied the list’s No. 2 spot last year and her earnings for the year are $1 million greater than last year’s list highest-paid actress, Sandra Bullock.
In fourth place is the only non-American on the list, Bingbing Fan, a Chinese actress who earned $21 million. According to Forbes, this amount is $660 million less compared to the combined total of the top 34 highest paid actors in the world who earned $941 million in all.
The highest paid actress earned $52 million, but still actress’ earnings were far behind highest paid male actors. Lawrence towered above Scarlett Johansson, second on the actress list with an estimated $35.5m, and Mike & Molly star Melissa McCarthy with $23m. And while there’s a lot more important stuff in the feminist cause to squabble over than a million dollar wage gap for very wealthy, privileged people, it’s still important that we bring it up. She didn’t even make it into the top ten this year, as her payday dropped from $51 million to $8 million over the course of an uneventful 12 months. Only four women made more than $20 million, while 21 men made more than $20 million.
Jennifer Lawrence has finally topped the Forbes List of Highest-Paid Actresses.
Her money came from her movie roles and a lucrative deal as the face of fashion house Dior.
Lawrence would go on to star in the 2012 hit comedy “Silver Linings Playbook” alongside Bradley Cooper (“American Sniper”), which would eventually earn her an Oscar and lead her to a startling rise in the industry amongst its most sought after celebrities.
Jolie is tied with Reese Witherspoon – both pulling in an estimated $15 million apiece.
Melissa McCarthy laid hands on her largest ever annual paycheck after the hefty success of 2015’s Spy and 2014’s Tammy which grossed a combined $335 million worldwide. This year, Forbes included actresses who earned at least $6 million contrary to the male barrier, which was at least $13 million.
