‘Force Awakens’ crosses $250 million globally after record Friday

The movie has already smashed several film industry records and won praise from critics and moviegoers.

Forty-seven percent of Thursday’s domestic ticket sales came from 3D tickets, Disney said.

The Force Awakens has already broken the previous $91.1 million record for opening day previews.

According to Wired the box office sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens matinees are huge.

“The Force Awakens”, which has had its legions of fans frothing at the mouth ever since its mooted release, has grossed an estimated 129.5 million internationally since it opened overseas on Wednesday, setting records in Britain, Germany, Norway and Sweden.

Widely regarded as the best “Star Wars” game of all time, BioWare‘s “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” is an immersive role-playing adventure set 4,000 years before the events of the first film in the franchise.

The legendary actress offered some of her life wisdom to her “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” co-star, telling her it wouldn’t be wise to “go through the crew like wildfire”.

“The Force Awakens” started screening on Thursday evening with hundreds of sellouts following months of massive marketing.

“We will continue to add showtimes to accommodate the avid fans that have been eagerly awaiting the seventh film in this blockbuster series”, Amy Miles, chief executive officer of Regal Entertainment Group, the largest USA exhibitor, said in the statement.

That would make it the second-highest grossing picture of all time, trailing only 2009’s “Avatar”, which took in $2.8 billion worldwide. Obama left the press conference saying he needed to get to “Star Wars”.

Audience polling firm CinemaScore gave the new release an A grade, including an A-plus among women and younger audiences. R2-D2 also interacted with reporters by playing the Star Wars theme song and some patriotic tunes.

“The Force Awakens” opened this weekend in virtually every major market except China, where it will debut on January 9, and Greece and India, where it will roll out next Thursday.
