Ford F-150 Saves More Fuel With New Feature
The announcement concerns the trucks using the 2.7- and 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines – including the Raptor – will sport the system that can automatically cut off the engine when the vehicle is stopped. The latest addition to its mold-breaking trends was the addition of standard start-stop technology on its 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine.
This technology can also detect engine when it is idle or when the vehicle is at stop, except when in towing mode or four-wheel drive mode.
Already equipped with the feature are the 2016 Focus with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost, 2016 Fusion with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost and the 2016 Edge with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost.
That’s all about to change as Ford just announced Auto Start-Stop to be standard across 100 percent of the EcoBoost-equipped 2017 Ford F-150 lineup, and that includes the all-new Ford F-150 Raptor. The engine restarts when the brake is released.
At the rate EcoBoost is growing, fuel-saving Auto Start-Stop could represent more than 60 percent of the truck lineup – giving F-150 the highest number of Ford nameplates offering standard Auto Start-Stop technology.
The F-150’s start-stop technology isn’t like every other on in the market, as it is tuned specifically for pickup trucks.
According to Ford truck group marketing manager Doug Scott, “EcoBoost already powers F-150’s best-in-class towing”.
Ford says that though fuel efficiency will increase with this technology, yet the actual numbers will depend on the exact driving conditions and patterns.
The Ford F-150 continues to break and reshape the mold of pickup trucks.
Ford isn’t saying exactly how much gas will be saved at this point, or indeed what sort of reduction in Carbon dioxide emissions should be seen.
