Ford factory near Detroit evacuated after bomb threat
Ford Motor Co.s Romeo Engine Plant reopened Thursday afternoon after it was evacuated and closed and for about five hours because of a bomb threat.
“We are working with local law enforcement to address the situation and at this point, we have sent home the day shift”, said Marisa Bradley, Ford Communications Manager.
According to published reports, the incident occurred about 7:30 a.m. Ford officials told WWJ Newsradio 950 employees were sent home.
Authorities are conducting a search of the plant, which is more than 2 million square-feet. Several law enforcement agencies, including Romeo Police and the Macomb County Sheriffs Office converged on the scene.
The plant, which opened in 1973, employs about 500 people.
Moran said he did not know how many employees were in the building Thursday morning. The Romeo Police Department confirms to Autoblog that it’s handling the investigation.
