REMEDY: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument panel software, free of charge.
Ford is set to recall more than 400,000 of its new vehicle models due to an issue with the engine. According to the company, the recall is part of its safety compliance protocols. As a result of the problem, the engine could keep running after the key is turned to “off” and removed, or after the start/stop button is pressed to turn the engine off. The safety compliance recall will hit “approximately 433,000 vehicles in North America, including certain 2015 Focus, C-MAX and Escape vehicles, for an issue with the body control module”.
A Ford Motor assembly worker works on the final production line of the 2012 Ford Focus at Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan March 17, 2011. “This is a compliance issue with FMVSS 114 regarding theft protection and rollaway prevention”.
Ford says there have been no accidents or injuries caused by this bug, but it needs owners to take the affected models to their nearest Ford dealer where a software patch will be applied.
The recall order encompass total 432,096 vehicles out of which 52,180 are located in Canada, 374,781 are located in the United States and 5,135 are located in Mexico. The affected C-Max hybrid wagons were built from April 22, 2014 to June 12, 2015, while the affected 2015 Escape SUVs were built from April 1, 2014 to June 12, 2015.
Recently, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has also launched a auto sharing program that would enable owners of Ford vehicles to lower costs by supporting them rent out their vehicles.
