Ford Focus RS Officially Makes 350 hp, 350 lbs
Ford announced yesterday that the 2016 Ford Focus RS hot hatch will get a whopping 350 horsepower and 350 lb ft of torque for performance enthusiasts.
After the driver stalls the vehicle, rather than having to depress the clutch and turn the key again, the engine will restart as soon as you fully depress the clutch. Ensuring the engine can handle such vast pressure, the cylinders have been lined with high-tensile cast iron and the engine block is topped with what Ford is calling a “high-performance” head gasket.
People are hoping that the 2016 Ford Focus RS is going to be more reliable than the vehicle on the market at the moment as a few owners have had issues in the past. The final 350 hp figure means it pumps out a very impressive 152 hp per litre with the twin-scroll turbocharging running at up to 23.2 psi responsible for much of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost’s power and torque.
The Focus RS’ AWD system supports Dynamic Torque Vectoring, which was developed by GKN, and can send up to 70 percent of engine power to the rear wheels.
According to Tyrone Johnson, engineering and vehicle manager at Ford Performance Europe, the new stall recovery system is based on RS’ automatic engine start/stop system. Air itself is delivered through a low-restriction intake manifold on the front end with a high-performance exhaust. The Focus RS will also benefit from faster cooling provided by a larger radiator. Good thing this Focus RS is looking out for you. This a big jump from the original estimates of the 2.3-liter turbo’s 315hp that Ford said the Focus RS would exceed.
