Ford Reveals Apollo Edition Mustang Ahead of Auction
It is finished in a unique gloss white and black exterior paint scheme to resemble the colour combinations of the Apollo spacecraft. The muscle vehicle has been inspired by NASA’s Apollo program and it is also getting the six-piston brakes signed by Brembo, the 21-inch Forgiato wheels covering them, the sport tuned suspension system and so on.
Ford’s technicians also added a sizeable carbon fibre front splitter and rear diffuser, plus a gloss black rear spoiler and unique LED underbody lighting, created to symbolise the appearance of atmospheric re-entry.
The Apollo theme continues with interior details, including performance gauges, modified instrument cluster, unique sill plates and embroidered elements in seats, trim panels and floor mats.
Based on a 2015 fastback Ford Mustang GT, Ford design and engineering teams transformed the 5.0-litre auto into the Apollo Edition Mustang.
On July 23 the auto will be sold to the highest bidder at an auction to benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association’s youth education programmes, including the Young Eagles. “The entire program was extraordinary – one of our nation’s greatest technological achievements”. “With this year’s stunning Apollo Edition Mustang, we salute that spirit of American ingenuity with the quintessential American automobile – Ford Mustang”. According to Ford’s official specifications, the Mustang Apollo develops 627 hp and 540 lb.-ft. of torque.
All proceeds will benefit such youth programs as the Young Eagles, which has provided free introductory flights to more than 1.9 million young people since 1992.
In true red, white and blue style, the U.S. carmaker, on Thursday, unveiled its eighth aviation inspired Mustang called the “Apollo Edition” as a tribute to the innovation and inspiration of Apollo space missions.
