Forecasters: Weekend winter storm heading to West Virginia
The mid-state will see its first significant accumulation of snow and ice just in time for the Wednesday morning commute.
Thursday: Mostly sunny. Breezy & chilly. How severe this storm turns out to be will depend on what happens as this system moves across land. Along the coast, destructive waves roiled up by 50- to 60-mph winds will cause tremendous beach erosion.
Farther north, anticipation was building for what the National Weather Service said could be a separate major winter storm with heavy snow, gusting winds and coastal flooding later in the week. But Washington D.C. and New York City are going to take the most direct hits from Jonas, and snow won’t be the only issue. The winds end late Tuesday night. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the entire FOX 2 News viewing area through 6am Wednesday. Expect lows of 17 to 20 degrees. High near 23. South-southwest wind 6 to 8 miles per hour becoming west in the afternoon.
The weather service says the storm is anticipated to develop Thursday night and continue on Friday and Saturday.
There are a few things that would put the limits on snow totals. Cloudy, with a low around 17.
Pretty much most of the east and midwest will get some amount of snow from this winter storm, with at least one to three inches of power to come down all the way from Tennessee all the way north to Wisconsin.
Temperatures are expected to fall rapidly after sunset on Monday dropping to the low 20s overnight, maybe even upper teens in the metro area.
