Former ‘American Idol’ Kelly Clarkson steals the spotlight at season premiere
The date of the premiere for season 14 of The Voice is January 26, 2018. She chose Kelly Clarkson to mentor her over coach Blake Shelton.
The episode featured blind auditions, in which the coaches were turned around without seeing the vocalists, spinning around only if the vocals caught their fancy.
Towards the end of the first blind auditions episode, all coaches had more than two members. Kelly’s acts found themselves at the bottom of the pack early on as a outcome of trouble with nerves, but eventually, Kelly got them to come out of their shells, and Kelly and Jason Farol eventually placed a respectable second-place behind Nettles. The youngest contestant so far this season, 14-year-old Brynn Cartelli, was described by Adam as having a voice “like a 36-year-old who’s been through it”.
However, his voice is mostly smooth and has a soft rock station-ready jam-band aesthetic that earns button taps from Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys, and Adam Levine.
“I can’t even get a word in right now”, Shelton retorted. So Levine advocated for Keys. Blake came out the victor, as Baird joined his team.
However, Alicia Keys chose to use her block button on Blake Shelton.
Longmeadow teenager Brynn Cartelli is officially part of Team Kelly.
Rayshun LaMarr fought his way back from Lymphoma three years ago. He had Levine and Shelton fighting for him and went with the former due to their rock connection. “The sheer bliss you sing with is infectious”, said Alicia. – Rayshun LaMARR picks Adam. Coaches must choose wisely – they only get one chance at the block.
King revealed that he is a former school teacher and her mother is also a retired teacher. However, things took a turn when a country artist took the stage, and Blake Shelton was blocked from pursuing the contestant.
Her delivery is tempered, although she does have the same whimpering undertones that made Addison Agen’s voice so intriguing last season.
Blaise Raccuglia takes the stage to sing “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes. But, then Blake turns his chair midway through the song to challenge Adam.
This 21-year old from Newark, DE dazzled with her rendition of the Meghan Trainor hit “Like I’m Gonna Lose You”.
“You’re a liar!” Clarkson said, acting offended before turning to fellow judge Alicia Keys.
“The Good Doctor”, 10 p.m. (KOMO): A teenage patient hopes the surgical team can free her from a life of confinement; a patient’s organ donor causes a moral dilemma.
Next up, movie theater bartender Drew Cole sang “Sex and Candy” by Marcy Playground. He went viral when he posted a video of himself playing guitar for his friend’s dog. He joined Team Adam. – After a long debate, D.R. King picks Kelly! He secured turns from Shelton and Clarkson, who seemingly had similar tastes on Monday night.
Kaleb Lee followed with a performance of “Never Wanted Nothin’ More” by Kenny Chesney. “I’ve had years of success, and here on The Voice, I get to give back”, she said. It was a straightforward country performance. Kelly and Blake turned their chairs, Alicia and Adam didn’t.
