Former Burnley striker David Nugent signs for Middlesbrough
The striker, capped once by England, joins on a three-year deal and will be available for Saturday’s Championship game against Bolton.
The England global underwent his medical in the north east yesterday and finalised personal terms last night. “I believe we are signing a very good player”.
“I have Ulloa, Kramaric, Vardy and Okazaki”.
He moves on with the best wishes of everyone following his spell at the club that also saw him become the first player in almost 30 years to score 20 league goals back in 2013-14 at that level.
Middlesbrough had been linked heavily with Blackburn Rovers’ Jordan Rhodes and reportedly had a £12m bid for the 25-year-old turned down.
“I am in the squad tomorrow”, he revealed.
“The main thing I would like to say is how well Middlesbrough are working”.
“Everyone knows what a good player he is”, said Karanka. Home form is key, people will come to Boro and play five at the back but we have the quality to break them down.
“Even if I am not playing I would be there to support the lads”. He’s a player I like a lot but it was impossible then. “I love closing down defenders and getting behind the defence”.
During his time at the King Power Stadium Nugent scored 49 goals in three seasons at Championship level, something Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka will hope to see more of as Boro looks to bounce back from playoff final disappointment in May.
