Former Don Bosco star Al-Quadin Muhammad dismissed from Miami football team
The Miami Hurricanes have dismissed senior linebacker Jermaine Grace and redshirt junior defensive lineman Al-Quadin Muhammad for violating NCAA rules, the school announced Saturday.
Miami’s rebuilding hopes took to a huge jolt Saturday morning when red-shirt junior defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad and senior linebacker Jermaine Grace were permanently dismissed from the Hurricanes football program for violating NCAA rules. UM’s investigation focused on whether players received heavily discounted luxury cars in exchange for some future stake in their careers.
Miami also said in its statement it will continue providing financial aid to Muhammad and Grace through graduation.
Investigators concluded that no staff members or boosters were involved in the violations.
Senior receiver Stacy Coley is said to also be involved in the school’s probe, however, Coley has been a full participant in the team’s fall camp and no statement has been released regarding his status.
Another player implicated in the allegations, linebacker Juwon Young, had been suspended indefinitely and opted to leave the team.
Having Muhammad and Grace out of the picture will test Miami’s defensive depth in a big way throughout the 2016 season. He’s the team’s best pass rusher and started coming on strong a year ago, finishing with eight tackles for a loss and five sacks.
In particular, the loss of Muhammad will significantly impact Miami’s defense.
Muhammad was suspended for the 2014 season for an off-campus altercation when he punched a student in the face.
