Former Judge Joe Brown turns himself in
His exchange with Juvenile Court Magistrate Harold “Hal” Horne led him to be charged with contempt. Horne sentenced Brown to five days in Shelby County Jail.
His fate was sealed earlier this week when his contempt of court appeal was denied.
Judge Joe Brown – who once hosted a self-titled TV series – is allegedly turning himself into authorities on Thursday to complete a five-day jail sentence. He ignored the judge’s warning to quiet down after getting loud with court employees, Shelby County Juvenile Court told ABC News at the time.
The contempt of court charge comes from a March 2014 incident after Brown attempted to help a woman in her child support case.
Brown himself was a local judge in Tennessee before becoming a television personality known for his Judge Joe Brown syndicated program. “Excuse me, on what authority do you sit, by the way?”
Brown’s a colorful character in Memphis history. “I will serve the time and I will continue to stand up and speak out for justice as I have done throughout my 40-year legal career”.
