Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose traded from Bulls to Knicks
Between injuries and Reggie Rose, the front office had enough.
From the Knicks’ perspective, getting rid of Lopez puts NY in the market for another big man to play alongside Kristaps Porzingis, who thrived as a rookie this past season.
Oklahoma City, however, can offer Durant a five-year contract starting at $25 million per season with 7.5 percent in annual increases.
Noah, 31, only played 29 games for Chicago last season due to battling injuries.
And durability isn’t the only question. Rose is still considered as good as any elite-level point guard in the National Basketball Association, with the caveat that the 7-year man remains fully healthy. Phil Jackson needed to make a splash and in this off season he has made the biggest one so far. With the recent deal that saw the Chicago Bulls let go of Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks, it looks like Carmelo Anthony is finally getting his end of the bargain.
STAYING PUT? Cavaliers forward and NBA Finals MVP LeBron James, who can opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent this summer, said he plans to stay in Cleveland. The Bulls finished 42-40 and the Knicks ended the season with a 32-50 record. Others are Chauncey Billups in 2011, Steve Francis in 2006 and Stephon Marbury in 2004. In addition, the Knicks have waived guard Tony Wroten.
Derrick Rose is also infamously known for tearing his left knee ACL during the first round of the 2012 NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Knicks are expected to transition to a quicker attack under Hornacek than the triangle offense they ran under Derek Fisher and Kurt Rambis, and Rose is better suited for that than anyone the Knicks had.
With Brook Lopez now in Chicago, the Knicks greatly needs a defensive anchor in the middle, and Noah fits the billing perfectly having been named Defensive Player of the Year three years ago.
Now, he and the millions of Knicks fans out there have a reason to believe that better days are ahead. The 27-year-old averaged 16.4 points and 4.7 assists for the Bulls last season. Rose attended the ceremony, which also honored him.
Patrick Kane won the Hart Trophy, becoming the first player born and trained in the U.S.to be named the NHL’s most valuable player.
To accommodate Rose’s skill set, the Knicks might have to change their offensive philosophy.
