Former NFL reciever Davone Bess arrested after standoff with SWAT
Former NFL wide receiver Davone Bess was arrested early Monday after fleeing a traffic stop and then barricading himself in his home, The Arizona Republic reports.
Bess was arrested around 4:45 a.m. Monday morning, about five hours after he was pulled over on a traffic violation by police in Gilbert, Ariz., according to The Arizona Republic.
Back in early 2014, former NFL player Davone Bess-who played for the Dolphins and Browns between 2008 and 2013-made a couple really questionable decisions that ultimately played a role in his pro football career coming to an abrupt end. “At this point a police K-9 was released and the K-9 bit Bess on the left forearm just inside the front door of the residence”, cops say.
He was charged with endangerment, felony flight and failure to stop for a police officer – all felonies. He then fled to his home, where he waved a knife while still in his vehicle and eventually walked into his home, while ignoring commands from police.
Bess previously had a run-in with the law in 2014, as he was arrested at Fort Lauderdale International Airport after allegedly being combative with and spilling coffee on a TSA officer.
The Dolphins traded Bess to the Browns a month after his hospitalization, with various reports about whether or not the Browns were aware of the incident prior to the trade.
Bess caught 363 passes for 3,809 yards and 14 touchdown passes in six National Football League seasons.
